The Kavanagh Trail
First and foremost is the Kavanagh Trail – a walking or cycling trail in the unique drumlin landscape of South Monaghan, consisting of numerous sites associated with the work of the poet such as the Kavanagh House and Farm at Mucker, Kednaminsha National School and of course, Billy Brennan’s Barn.

Other places to visit near Inniskeen include:
Brehon Brewhouse – located just a few miles from Kavanagh’s birthplace, this family-run business creates distinct craft beers in a small brewery on a farm and offers a tour of the brewery, old farm house and tasting bar where one of the best-sellers is ‘Stony Grey’ pale ale.
The nearby town of Carrickmacross is a bustling market town with some great places to eat and drink. Key attractions include:
Carrickmacross Workhouse – the workhouse has recently installed a moving audio-visual in the former children’s dormitory which tells the story of the famine and the workhouse experience through the eyes of one of its ‘residents’. It is a must-see visitor experience.
Carrickmacross Lace Gallery – the newly refurbished Market House is home to the unique Carrickmacross Lace.
The Collective@Market Square – a wonderfully curated art and craft gallery with an astonishing 90% of all arts and crafts having been made in Monaghan.
